What does the 11th house describe? Labha Bhava (Gains House)
Karaka: Jupiter · Class: Upachaya + Panaphara
This is the house of gains, income, the fulfillment of desires, elder siblings, friends, and social networks.
- If strong: A strong flow of gains, a wide and supportive social circle, the capacity to achieve goals.
- If challenged: Gains and friendship networks develop over time through conscious networking effort — since this too is an Upachaya house, maturity increases with age.
Type of the 11th house
Upachaya houses (3, 6, 10, 11) are houses that grow over time; the results of a planet here increase over the years.
How does Mercury work in this house?
Mercury is a natural benefic planet. Benefic planets give their best results in kendra and trikona houses; in dusthana houses their results weaken.
Mercury in the 11th house: when does it strengthen, when is it strained?
Strengthens: a growing house; in Gemini, Virgo or a friendly sign; recognition through small organising jobs, gains through commercial wit. Strained: as soul significator (atmakaraka) the 11th becomes a house of obstacles: partnership or back-office work rather than working alone; in Pisces.
Mature face: commercial wit that grows from the back office. Raw face: trying to run everything alone.
Where does Mercury look from the 11th house?
In Vedic astrology a planet casts its gaze (drishti) on certain houses from where it stands and influences those areas too. In this placement:
