Type of the 11th house

Upachaya houses (3, 6, 10, 11) are houses that grow over time; the results of a planet here increase over the years.

How does Mars work in this house?

Mars is a natural malefic planet. Planets counted as malefic do well in upachaya houses (3, 6, 10, 11), where they grow stronger over time and give good results. Here Mars is in a classically good place: it gives fighting strength and endurance.

Mars in the 11th house: when does it strengthen, when is it strained?

Strengthens: a growing house, where a malefic gives well; in its own sign or Capricorn it organises people around a cause; as 8th lord sudden gains. Strained: as desire grows, so can rivalry; in Cancer or Mercury's signs.

Mature face: few but realistic goals, uniting people around a purpose. Raw face: running for friends more than for family.

Where does Mars look from the 11th house?

In Vedic astrology a planet casts its gaze (drishti) on certain houses from where it stands and influences those areas too. In this placement:

• 2nd house (your savings, family, speech, food and drink, and values)
• 5th house (creativity, children, love, intelligence, education and fortune)
• 6th house (health, daily order, service, rivals and your power to overcome difficulty)

In which sign?

The same house placement gives results more easily when Mars is in a sign where it is strong, and with more effort when it is in a sign where it struggles.
