Type of the 5th house

Trikona houses (1, 5, 9) are the houses of fortune and dharma; tradition counts them as the most supportive houses of the chart.

How does Mars work in this house?

Mars is a natural malefic planet. Planets counted as malefic do well in upachaya houses (3, 6, 10, 11), where they grow stronger over time and give good results. In kendra and trikona houses, however, Mars can also bring hardness or pressure to this area; it needs to be handled consciously.

Strengthens: as ruler of the ascendant or a trine a yoga of authority, as 11th lord a wealth yoga; in its own sign or in Capricorn. Strained: in Cancer or Mercury's signs, with Saturn; impatience, turning learning into a race.

Mature face: technical intelligence, determination to keep learning. Raw face: impatience, forcing results.

Where does Mars look from the 5th house?

In Vedic astrology a planet casts its gaze (drishti) on certain houses from where it stands and influences those areas too. In this placement:

• 8th house (transformation, depth, shared resources, research and rebirth)
• 11th house (income, goals, friends, networks and the fulfilment of wishes)
• 12th house (the inner realm, rest, spirituality, distant places and withdrawal)

In which sign?

The same house placement gives results more easily when Mars is in a sign where it is strong, and with more effort when it is in a sign where it struggles.
