The 2nd house is the house of savings, family and speech; tradition also names it a maraka, a house that wears on life force.

Strengthens: in Capricorn or its own sign, as 10th lord authority through speech (a seat of power), with Jupiter's aspect. Strained: in Cancer, or as 6th lord a theme of debt in the family; in Mercury's signs speech can turn sharp.
Mature face: strength that protects loved ones and directs by its word. Raw face: harsh words, money that comes in but is not kept.

In Vedic astrology a planet casts its gaze (drishti) on certain houses from where it stands and influences those areas too. In this placement:
- 5th house (creativity, children, love, intelligence, education and fortune)
- 8th house (transformation, depth, shared resources, research and rebirth)
- 9th house (fortune, faith, higher education, long journeys, mentors and dharma)
In which sign?
